Virgin and Child Illumination Workshop

St. Gregory the Great Parish Center, 3rd Floor

Recreate a 15th-century illumination of the Virgin and Child Jesus!
In this day-long workshop participants will make their own paints according to a medieval recipe and be guided step-by-step through the process of recreating a beautiful gothic illumination. 

10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.   Session 1
12:00 p.m.- 1:00 p.m.   Lunch Break (on your own)
1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.   Session 2

Ages 10 and up with parental supervision. All skill levels welcome. Perfect for Christmas cards or gifts!

You can pay online or mail a check. Make checks payable to Mary, Mother of God Parish with "St. Gregory's Hall" in the memo line to 5545 N Paulina St, Chicago, IL 60640. All donations are used to cover program and staff-related expenses of St. Gregory's Hall. No funds are used for general Parish operating expenses.

Scholarships are available for those who would like to participate but lack the financial means. Contact us for more information.

About the Instructor

Picture
Sarah Crow is a sacred artist who has mastered Baroque oil painting techniques (read about her recent historical reproduction of Caravaggio's Supper of Emmaus HERE). She is a former lecturer at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and currently the artist in residence at St. Gregory’s Hall where she maintains an active studio of both sacred art commissions and representational paintings.
