The Confessions of Saint Augustine
Wednesdays, 6:30-8:00 p.m.
January 18-March 22
Basehart Room, Gym Building
1609 W Gregory St (corner of Gregory and Ashland)
“You move us to delight in praising You; for You have made us for Yourself, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You." - Confessions, Book I
Join Fr. Bob Sprott for a ten-week seminar on a classic of Christian literature. St. Augustine of Hippo (354-430) was a prominent figure in Roman society who converted to Christianity, was made a bishop, and shepherded his flock in North Africa while writing numerous important works ranging from the nature of the Trinity to music theory.
In the Confessions, Augustine presents the very first autobiography. With self-conscious reflection, he relates the story of his life including his numerous sins and failures culminating in his conversion. Deeply personal and full of expressions of praise, the book also delves deeply into fundamental philosophical and theological questions. A work both spiritually edifying and intellectually enriching, it is worth the close, attentive reading that will be the method in this seminar.
Registration for this course is currently full. Please contact Mark Franzen if you would like to be put on the waiting list.
