Saint Ita: A French Gothic Masterpiece
Saint Ita Catholic Church, 5500 N Broadway
Saturday, July 29, 10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. led by Sarah Crow (artist-in-residence) The masterful architect, Henry J. Schlacks, who built 12 of Chicago's magnificent churches, culminated his work at St Ita in 1927. So many points of interest are in this one structure that we are dedicating one whole tour entirely to it. The 120-foot exterior tower, for example, embodies the spirit of the original Irish congregation, combining a delicate, lacy beauty with the incredible strength and enduring stability of 1,800 tons of Bedford limestone. Join us as we explore more of this incredible French Gothic Masterpiece in Edgewater! Cosponsored by Catholic Church Tours. |
