Solidarity Gardens

Solidarity Gardens is a network of garden plots throughout Uptown and Edgewater that provide food for the St. Thomas of Canterbury Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry and our neighbors in need. It is a collaborative project of the churches of Mary, Mother of God Catholic Parish, Loyola University Chicago, and our neighbors.

  • May 2024 - Intern Ashley Klauck joined the team. Get to know Ashley and learn about how she will be helping in the gardens by reading her interview. READ IT HERE.
  • April 2024 - James Murphy and Solidarity Gardens were featured in the article "Loyola students fight food waste, expand access to food" from Loyola Today.
  • Summer 2023 - Solidarity Gardens were highlighted in the Mary, Mother of God Parish's Outreach Newsletter. READ IT HERE.
  • June 2023 - On the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, the garden plots at St. Thomas of Canterbury church were blessed by Fr. Romert Morales, OFM Conv.
  • Spring 2023 - Collaboration with Loyola University's Urban Agriculture Program began. Under the guidance of director Kevin Erickson, students Jace and Katherine began organizing and planting.
