Mass setting for the Vigil of the Assumption highlights the mystery of the Solemnity

"Mary is taken up into heaven,
a chorus of angels exults"
August 14 marked the end of a brilliant and successful inaugural season of choral liturgies organized by St. Gregory's Hall as part of its Sacred Music Program.

Mass for the Vigil of the Solemnity of the Assumption was held at St. Gregory the Great with His Excellency Bishop Joseph N. Perry serving as celebrant and several priests from the parish, including pastor Fr. Alejandro Lopez, OFM Conv. and Conventual Franciscan Provincial Fr. Paul Langevin, OFM Conv., concelebrating.

The music for this important Marian feast was particularly fitting. Composer-in-Residence Kevin Allen's "Missa Jesu Redemptor Omnium" features violin and harp accompaniment that highlight the majesty and mystery of the Blessed Virgin Mary's ascent into heaven in body and soul. Marian motets by Marenzio and Josquin des Prez were also featured.
